Tradition of Reading Books

There is a saying said that read is the window to see the world. We can look at that sentence, it is true because by reading, what things we have not be able to see and know we know from books. But in recent years most people do not like to read for many kind of reason. How to maintain a reading culture in Indonesia? Whether the culture of reading is will still be able to survive in this era of globalization?

The ratio of the population with the newspaper: Indonesia only 1: 43. A newspaper read by 43 people, compared to Malaysia (1: 8.1), Japan (1: 1.74), and Indian (1: 38.14) . Developed countries 513 book titles per million inhabitants (Daniel Dhakidae, 1997: 187). From the above statistics we can find a fact that high literacy was not always followed by an increasing number of books and other text media. Including the habit of reading books

Survey has shown that each year reading habits is began to decline. This is because most kids would rather play games than read because they think it's boring. But not only children but also adults, because of busy and little free time they have also become rare to read.

The number of new books being published was only 0.0009 percent of the total population, which means nine new titles for every million people. Developing country average 55 per one million people. (www.suaramerdeka.com, December 26, 2005).

The fact that there is indeed a very sad fact that there is an interest in reading, but we do not want to realize it. So all we need is self-conscious to want to read. If we want to read we can increase knowledge, and science. Essentially all of the books are made with a specific purpose and with reason. So, whatever we read, that book will certainly be useful for ourselves.
Reading is not just read but study, understand that what we read,so we will know the message or the science of what we read, with understand we will not soon forget and with understanding we can apply or share knowledge to others even if it's just one paragraph , one verse, one sentence. we can begin that habit to children
.
